ABOUT THE ARTIST

HAMID ABBASI B. 1977

Hamid Abbasi, was born in 1977 in Iran. He showed a precocious talent for drawing at a very young age and began
painting at the age of 8 taught by his elder brother and cousins who were all
established artists. Hamid excelled in all his school subjects but especially painting and
calligraphy, producing his first portrait in his early teens. By 19 he was selling professionally
locally and studying with Iranian artists Inaloo and Panahzaded. He migrated to Australia in 2009, where he resides and practices his art.

Hamid has been recognized in national and international competitions, including four times finalist in Lester Prize (Black Swan) for portraiture, Certificate of Excellence from Portrait Society of America, first prize Pastel in WA Society of Arts, first prize Still life in WA Society of Arts, people’s choice in Australian Guild of Realistic Artists (VIC), people’s choice in WA Society of Arts, highly commended in Australian Guild of Realistic Artists (VIC) and WA Society of Arts, finalist in Art Renewal Centre and short listed for BP Portrait Exhibition.
